3 hot takes from Equip Expo 2025

With almost 30,000 attendees and hundreds of vendors, attending Equip Expo is one of the best ways to understand the state of the landscaping industry.

About the Equip Expo

Equip Exposition is where America’s outdoor power, landscaping, and hardscape pros come to see what’s next. It has more than 1.2 million square feet of exhibits, a 30-acre Outdoor Demo Yard where attendees “test before they invest”, and it has broken attendance records 3 years in a row. The Duranta team was there in force meeting customers, checking out the technology, and understanding where the industry is going.

1. The landscaping industry is getting younger

We met a couple in their twenties that have a multimillion dollar lawn care, landscaping and hardscaping business. They now have so much work that they are hiring sales reps to take some of the load of their plate 🤯 🤯.

We also met several young entrepreneurs who were still in their teens! These young guns launched their lawn care businesses straight out of high school, and before they can legally buy a beer, they are sitting on tens or hundreds of thousands in their bank accounts. They are now making the jump to do more involved landscaping and hardscaping work.

2. The landscaping industry is getting sharper

Everyone is leveling up. It is typical to see attendees of trade shows trying to build more profitable businesses: people don’t drive or fly thousands of miles just for the bourbon or the ribs (although they are excellent). But this year was different: everyone knew about AI and wanted to see how they can it to work smarter, faster or more efficiently.

We had lines at our booth from lawn care professionals who want to automatically measure properties to create accurate snow removal, pest control or lawn care estimates. We spoke with hardscapers looking for easier ways to create winning proposals for their patio, retaining wall and other projects. We love this trend - the more sophisticated that we can become as an industry, the more beautiful a world we can help create.

3. 21” Gas powered mowers are about to become extinct

The electric vs gas debate is one of the most vicious arguments in the lawn care and landscaping industries. Some landscapers argue that electric mowers and other landscaping equipment is more expensive, inefficient and not as powerful as gas equipment. Whereas other landscaping business owners love how much more quiet, clean and lower maintenance is their electric equipment.

We think that whether gas or electric equipment is the right choice depends on what you are doing. But for smaller, 21” mowers the answer is clear: battery powered mowers are winning the day. In fact, we searched through 1 million square feet (that’s almost 23 acres y’all), and we couldn’t find a single gas powered mower!
