How a master arborist seals deals

These three tips have helped Duranta customer Keenan boost his close ratio

About Keenan

Keenan Baird is a Board Certified Master Arborist, an elite designation that less than 1,500 people hold worldwide. He is also the founder and CEO of GreenRoots, a professional tree care and lawn services company based in Lafayette, Tennessee where he nurtures his passion for nurturing landscapes and helping communities thrive. Below, he shares his top sales tips that help him close jobs and win sales.

Relationships are key

“From the moment you first meet a client, it is important to play detective” says Keenan. “Learn their dog’s name, establish yourself as a caring professional”.

Keenan’s advice echoes those of Lindsey Ullman, Senior Vice President of Product at Angi’s. Lindsay says that the primary question homeowner’s want to know is whether they can trust you. And making sure that you understand details about your customer’s property and life helps with that.

Never split the difference

Keenan always charges fairly, and stands by his rate. “When you give a price, be confident in it! The price is the price. Your work has value, don’t negotiate against yourself.”

Lindsay echoes that price is not the most important factor, homeowner’s don’t necessarily “want the cheapest price, they want a reasonable price and they want jobs done on their timeline”.

How can you be confident about your price? In Duranta, you can input your production rates and combine them with precise measurements of a property to feel confident in your quote.

Don’t let them off the hook

“I always love to give customers a call and send the proposal while I’m on the phone with them” says Keenan. “I can answer any questions they have about scope in that conversation, and it has boosted my close ratio significantly”.
